In building out a new data center I have been involved in doing some security assessment and have learned about SYN cookies. Most firewalls and some load balancers will protect your network from SYN floods using them. Very interesting stuff. If you don’t know much about SYN Cookies and how they can protect your network I would suggest doing some further investigation and reading.
