Obscribe vs Google Docs.

Google Docs is free, familiar and excellent for writing together, which is why so many teams keep meeting notes there. What it does not do is follow up: tasks, decisions and questions stay buried in old documents. Obscribe adds the structure that carries them forward.

Which one to choose

Choose Obscribe if

  • Action items keep getting lost in documents nobody reopens.
  • You want to see every open task and unanswered question across a project in one place.
  • You want decisions recorded where people can find them again.
  • You are happy to pay a small per-seat price for structure that already works.

Choose Google Docs if

  • You want several people typing in the same document at the same moment.
  • You need to share with people outside your team by link.
  • Cost matters most and a free tool is good enough.
  • Your team already works in Google Workspace and wants everything in Drive.

How they differ

Follow-through is the difference

A document is a fine place to write down a meeting. The trouble starts a week later, when nobody can remember which document held the decision, and the action items are scattered across six of them.

In Obscribe, tasks you create from a note show up on one list and one board. Open questions stay open until answered. The next meeting begins with what was left over from the last one.

Less to maintain than a template folder

Many teams build their own system on Docs: a template, a folder per project, a naming habit. It works until someone forgets. Obscribe has that structure built in, so there is nothing for the team to remember to do.

Where Google Docs is stronger

Google Docs is the better choice when you want true real-time writing together, easy sharing outside your team, or no cost. Obscribe does not do live co-editing, and sharing is limited to people you invite into the workspace.

Using both

A common pattern is to keep long documents, such as proposals and specs, in Google Docs and keep the meetings, decisions and tasks in Obscribe. You can paste a link to a document into any note.

Questions

Good to know.

Is Obscribe better than Google Docs for meeting notes?

For follow-through, it is built for it: tasks, decisions and open questions carry from one meeting to the next. For writing together live, or sharing with people outside your team, Google Docs is stronger.

Can several people edit the same Obscribe note at once?

Obscribe is not built for typing together in real time. People comment, reply and mention each other on a note, and a note keeps its history so earlier versions can be restored.

Can I bring my Google Docs notes into Obscribe?

There is no importer. You can paste text into a note, and Obscribe keeps headings, lists and checklists.
